2) Navroze Contractor
3) Sadanand Menon
Has
awarded the:
Best
Long Documentary (40mts and above)
with a cash prize of Rs 1.00 lakhs and a certificate
to :
Bilal
directed and produced by Saurav Sarangi
Citation:
A nugget of a film, in which the camera-eye
– literally and metaphorically –
transcends sight and becomes an agency for ‘insight’.
The film goes close to the joys and sorrows
and the struggle for livelihood of a blind couple
in an urban ghetto, without robbing them of
their dignity or sentimentalizing their lives.
The result is not some distanced pity, but a
closer camaraderie the viewer feels with the
family and the neighborhood. An excellent example
of ‘living camera’.
Much of the time the camera works with the point
of view of the four-year-old protagonist of
the film, sharing his mischief, wonder and sense
of discovery of the world, leaving no scope
for self-indulgence or voyeurism.
The Jury unanimously chose the film for the
award in the ‘Long Documentary’
category for both, its humane perspective and
its outstanding achievements in cinematography
and editing
Special Mentions – Long Documentary
The Jury selected Anirban Datta’s ‘In
for Motion’ for ‘Special Mention’
for its concept and skillful structuring of
a complex theme examining the local impact of
global developments. The filmmaker traverses
a wide canvas geographically with a sensitive
camera registering the tensions inherent to
change.
The Jury also singled out for ‘Special
Mention’ the sound design contributed
by Boby Jon for the film ‘All the World’s
a Stage’ multiple layering of performance
sounds and live tracks.
